Active and embodied, “carry” implies weight, effort, and choice, tying together the wood-panel drawings (history living inside present bodies) and Interactive Erasure (visitors physically carrying out the labor of revealing what’s underneath). The collective “we” pulls the viewer into implication rather than distance, and the title bridges past and present without needing to spell out “history” or “memory” outright — giving both bodies of work a shared through-line.

Join artist Josh Kramb for a conversation about his solo exhibition at The Sketchbook Gallery, on view October 31 – December 6, 2026. Kramb’s intimate pen-and-ink drawings on wood panel investigate historical truths related to slavery through objects of oppression, layering ink and coffee wash to explore how history lives inside present-day bodies. This discussion will delve into his process, the shift in his practice since 2020, and how drawing can open conversations about race that are otherwise difficult to begin. All are welcome.
