Juried Exhibition: July 5 – Aug 2, 2025

Juror: Jennifer Hicks, Jane St. Art Center Director

Theme: We are looking for working artist sketchbooks and one of your pieces from that sketchbook, ready to hang for a show at The Sketchbook Gallery, July 5 – Aug 2. We want to see your creative process. Your sketchbook itself may or may not be for sale – That is up to you. BUT the highlighted piece displayed on the wall must be for sale.

We would exhibit both the sketchbook and the piece hung on the wall. Sketchbooks will be displayed on a pedestal and the artwork hung next to it. It must be clear that this is part of your regular artistic practice and NOT work pasted into a notebook just for this show.

Your sketchbook must be from within the past 2 years.

Notification – Thurs, June 26

SUPER CUTE!!!

SUPER CUTE!!! In this stressful time we could definitely use a big dose of adorable energy. This group exhibition is the perfect way to bring that to life. Our artists’ subjects range from puppies to babies, manga to bunnies, sparkles, unicorns, fuzzy creatures and more. We feature artworks that make you smile, giggle, and evoke that happy, weird, and super cute vibe. Whether through drawing, painting, photography, or sculpture, the goal is simple: to spread the feeling of everyday cuteness that is all around us. What do you find cute? How does something cute make you feel? Let’s find out. And remember, one person’s cute may be another person’s creepy. It’s all fair game.

Welcome Home

This deeply personal exhibition will take place in both of our galleries, Jane St Art Center and The Sketchbook Gallery. This is an exhibition where the artist visually answers questions around what home is to them; the images, memories, dreams and feelings. This show is about a place; a place where you feel comfortable, the oddities and beauties of where you come from and where you feel at home. We focus on the intimate and often overlooked elements of “home” encouraging both artists and viewers to explore their connections to place in a nuanced way.

Jane St. Art Center Sketch Club

Artists have been gaining inspiration from a live model for centuries. It is a time honored tradition where we learn by seeing and expressing what we see and feel. An artist’s vision and expression gets funneled through their life experience, culture, training, moment, time and place; content and context. As we focus on seeing, we create. We note the human form plus colors, lights and darks, line, gesture, composition etc. Each artist has a unique mark making language and interpretation of the model. You can have one model and 15 artist drawings and each artist will have entirely different interpretations of the same person and same pose. We all see differently. It’s a magical experience to be in a studio all together in this creative process. This show is a sample of what we do. We encourage you to think of these pieces as experiments, a process of discovery by each artist rather than a product.

You're Breaking Up

You’re fired. I’m leaving. You just crashed your car into my storm-wrecked home. I’m standing in your flooded basement with an electrical cord in my hand. It’s hard to concentrate. I’m freaking out. I can’t hear you. What?
